WE HAVE A GOLD MEDAL WINNER!

The following excerpt which was published in the newspaper was read by all members of the community, from school children, to executives of a big company like Aviva (http://www.aviva.co.uk), to retired men and women. The internet has helped us keep the memory alive, so that those who didn't read it the first time round in the paper, can now have access to it whenever they want.

Gymnastics team places

The Smoky Mountain Gymnastics team brought home a total of 18 medals and the second place all-around trophy at the Y2K Compulsory Classic in Chattanooga, this past weekend. This was their first sanctioned meet. The team has been training for a year under Russian elite-level coach Aleksandr Gridnev at Perpetual Motion gym on East Brown School Road.

Competing team members were Lillian Calabrese, Faith Carrigan, Melanie Everett, Jami Gillespie, Taylor Gant, Allison Neubert, Mackenzie Morgan and Forest Sturgill. Age division 7 awards went to Morgan with two gold, one bronze and second-place-all-around. Eight-year-old-division winners were Everett with two bronze and Neubert with one gold, three bronze and first-place-all-around. Age division 9 winners were Carrigan and Sturgill with one bronze each. Gant won one gold, two silver and third-place-all-around. The-year-old division winner was Gillespie with one bronze.
